Surgical techs are such an important part of a surgical team. Most times surgical techs work with nurses, anesthesiologists and surgeons. Their participation in surgeries truly helps to make procedures and surgical cases operate more efficiently. Surgical techs need to be trained and trained well. They are part of the pre surgical, surgical and post surgical procedures that make the entire case run smoothly from beginning to end. Surgical tech training can take anywhere from nine months to two years. In most cases nine months is sufficient. If you do however choose to specialize in a specific surgical area such as open heart surgery or neurosurgery you will most likely need more training for your specialized area of study. There are many different schools that offer surgical tech programs. If you are planning on working in your current job while you are going to school it is going to be important to find a school that offers daytime and evening classes. You may also want to consider enrolling yourself in an online program.
The average annual salary for a surgical tech in the state of Alabama is approximately $33,740. This is just the average salary and will increase with experience and if you have chosen to specialize in a specific area of surgery.
