Employment Opportunities

Health care is the fastest growing field in the job market today. The need for Surgical Technologists is seen in doctor, dentist, and ophthalmologist offices, birthing centers, out patient clinics and on specialty teams. There is still a shortage of qualified people in this field. Pay is dependent on the area and the company for which a person works with slightly higher pay when working with a specialty team.

Duties involved for a Surgical Technologist

A Surgical Technologist prepares the patient for surgery by prepping the area for the incision, making sure the instruments and other equipment are available and working correctly, helps during surgery by handing instruments to the surgeon and answering any request made as well as watching the patients vital signs. After surgery they help transport the patient to recovery and restock the supplies in the operating room in a sterile manner. Surgical Technologists are supervised by the surgeon and registered nurses while performing their tasks.

Financial Aid

Once a student has been accepted into the course of study they may apply for financial aid. The amount of financial aid is dependent upon their family financial situation and any scholarships they may already have been awarded.
