Surgical Technologists will find work in hospitals, doctor’s offices, dentist’s offices, birthing centers, ambulatory clinics, and specialty teams all hire Surgical Technologists.
Academic studies include Basic Sciences for Surgical Technology, Surgical Patient Care Concepts, Surgical Specialties, and Clinical Practice for Surgical Technology.
A Surgical Technologist helps before during and after surgery. They prep the area where surgery is to be preformed, make sure the instruments and equipment are available and working correctly, hand over instruments during surgery, monitor vital signs and help with transporting the patient after surgery. They must be able to stay on their feet for several hours during surgery, keeping a calm demeanor while doctors and nurses are expecting clear and concise results from you when told what instrument or action they need from you. The Surgical Technologist, commonly called a Scrub, is supervised by the doctor and registered nurses on the team on which they are working.
The San Francisco Bay area has three of the top five highest pay for Surgical Technologists in metro areas in the Nation. Even with this distinction of great pay there is still a shortage of certified personnel in this field. A Surgical Technologist makes $25 per hour in the San Francisco Bay area. There are many clinics and hospitals located in the San Francisco Bay area from which to seek a Surgical Technologist position.
There are several programs for student aid available for those who qualify according to their family financial situation and any scholarships you may already have obtained. A student must be enrolled in the course of study before they can apply.
