The Role of a Surgical Technologist

Surgeons may perform the surgery but surgical tech’s make the surgery possible. Surgical tech’s otherwise known as “scrubs” prepare the operating room for surgery by setting up surgical instruments and equipment, assemble both sterile and non-sterile equipment, get patients ready for their operation and transport the patient to the operating room to name just a few responsibilities. A surgical tech must be able to work under pressure keeping a clear and organized mind in order to perform their role effectively.

Theory and practical applications of the body systems are learned. Students are introduced to the environment of the operating room. They also get hands-on training in surgical equipment and supplies, sterilization, instruments and setting up an operating room. Surgical skills and laboratory procedures are learned so as to meet operating room requirements.
